(2) Canada vs. (3) Japan — 2012 U19WC Game 07
What a half of football! The first quarter was very explosive, ending in a 14-14 tie. Canada returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and Japan had a pick-six. It looked like Japan would take the lead again the 2nd quarter, but an interception in the endzone ended their threat. Neither team made much progress in the second until Japan turned it over twice late in the quarter, leading to 9 points and putting Canada up 23-14. It’ll be tough for Japan to climb back into the game since they’re going up against a potent Canadian offense, but they’ve had success on defense so far and should have opportunities to close the deficit.

This was a great, competitive game. Really, the first of the tournament, and what I hope we see more at the junior and senior levels in the years to come. Japan clawed their way back into the game, trailing by two with less than five minutes remaining. But Canada took over, moved the ball, and put the game away late. Congrats to Canada for moving on to the gold medal game on Saturday!
