July 7, 2012

Gold Medal game!

Teams 1Q 2Q 3Q 4Q OT Score
Canada 3 7 6 7 23
United States 0 7 7 3 17
Final

Halftime Write-up
This has been a great game. Canada played nearly flawlessly, but their one big mistake gave the USA good field position that they converted into points. The USA has been passing a lot and it hasn’t been working, so it’ll be interesting to see if they try to establish a run game, then try to open up the pass. Canada will keep doing what their doing. Penalties may be the deciding factor in the second half.

Post-game Write-up
The USA offense struggled all night and wasn’t able to overcome the Canadian lead. Canada pretty much dominated the entire game, but with about 2:30 left in the game and up by 9, Canada ended up snapping the ball over the QB’s head, giving it to the USA when all they had to do was run a few dives. Either way, USA didn’t do much, but did kick the field goal to make it a one score game. On the ensuing onside kick, the USA recovered, by illegally touched the ball. However! Canada was offsides, so they had to re-kick. This time, Canada recovered. But, just when you think it’s over and all Canada has do it is take a knee, their QB fumbles the snap. Fortunately for them, they recovered and after about 10 minutes longer than it should have lasted, the game finally ended. I’ll write more about the importance of this game in my wrap up, which I may not do until tomorrow when I have a bit more time.
