U19 Rankings

The rankings are processed by a formula that is based on wins, strength of opponent, and margin of victory. It’s a zero-sum formula:  the team that wins takes points from the team that loses. Because of this, teams with more wins tend to rise in the rankings regardless of opponent, but not as fast as teams with high quality wins.

I’ve tracked down as many U19 IFAF games as possible. I may have missed some, and if I find them later, I’ll put them the system and the rankings will change.

All games I have are used. U19 games start on 03/31/2002 with qualification for the 2002 European Junior Championship.

The only teams to appear in the rankings are teams that have played at least one game during what I’ll call a “cycle.” A cycle includes the most recent world championship, and begins at the end of the previous one. The only thing a cycle is used for is to determine if a team shows up in the rankings — these games do not have a higher weighting. Teams that haven’t played in the cycle show up at the end of the rankings with a rank of “-“. Their points are still shown.

The wins, losses, and ties columns show the team’s overall record since the beginning of the rankings.
